US President Joe Biden spoke today (Wednesday) to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he expects to see a lull in the fighting in Gaza today.
The president made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Netanyahu for the fourth time since the beginning of Operation Wall Guard.
A White House statement after their conversation said that Biden stressed to Netanyahu that he "expected to see a significant halt in escalation in Gaza on the way to a ceasefire."
At the same time, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke by telephone with Defense Minister Benny Ganz and stressed to him that the United States expects a ceasefire in Gaza.
Ganz told Austin that Israel would act "with political and security responsibility with the moderate elements in the region."
