According to Insider, the Microsoft founder promised help from Jeff Epstein.

that Gates had hoped that Epstein, who was well connected at the time, could bring him closer to his supposed goal in life, the Nobel Prize.
Gates assumed “that he would know the right people or that he would tinker things around to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
That's what Bill wants more than anything, ”says the employee.
