Bitter corona consequence: next major event in Bavaria canceled - usually 200,000 visitors come

Numerous large events and festivals planned for the summer are shaking, now the decision was made to host the Bamberg Sandkerwa.

Bamberg - It was to be expected: The Bamberg Sandkerwa, one of the most popular folk festivals in Franconia, will not take place in 2021 either because of the Corona * crisis.

The city council made the decision unanimously at a meeting on Wednesday, said Horst Feulner, managing director of Sandkerwa Veranstaltungs GmbH.

Last week, the Lord Mayor of Bamberg, Andreas Starke (SPD), the organizers, showmen and civil associations came to the conclusion in a conversation that the risk of infection with the corona virus on the Sandkerwa was too great.

The popular Upper Franconian traditional festival attracts around 200,000 visitors annually to the historic old town, who often throng the narrow streets.

The Sandkerwa had already been canceled last year due to the infection.

This year the festival was planned for the period from August 19th to 23rd.

Since Wednesday there have been hardly any initial vaccinations in Bavarian vaccination centers *.

New demands are being made from the county council.
