- Renate Holland has had to wait a long time for this day - since November 2020. Since then, her seven fitness studios in the Munich area have been closed.

The coronavirus has done a heavy blow to its industry.

On Friday, May 21st, Holland can unlock again - with strict conditions.

Your industry went through hell in this second lockdown, Holland told the Ebersberger Zeitung.

She sent her around 60 employees on short-time work and received state aid, albeit very late.

Nevertheless, it suffered enormous economic damage.

“We need years to get back to where we were,” says the fitness expert.

Corona in Bavaria: fitness studios complain about a massive decline in membership

With this statement, she is alluding to the massive decline in membership that she suffered during the lockdown.

Around 350 members have returned to the Ebersberg studio “Fit for friends” in Langwied alone.

"People became so insecure that they quit," says Holland, who directs serious allegations against politicians.

It takes us years to get back to where we were.

The fitness industry in Germany, with around 10,000 studios and ten million people who train there regularly and stay fit, would have relieved the German health system financially for decades.

Nevertheless, politicians have "simply closed the studios, although we have developed extensive hygiene concepts and invested in air purification devices," said Holland.

She believes that her industry has no lobby "because most politicians are unsportsmanlike and do not know what exercise and fitness mean to people".

Otherwise they would have found other regulations, believes Holland.

Fitness studios in Bavaria: Immediate start of work after Söder's announcement

Immediately after Prime Minister Markus Söder announced on Tuesday that fitness studios in counties with a stable incidence of less than 100 will be able to reopen from Friday (“Click & Fit”), Renate Holland's team got going.

The studios have to be spruced up, everything has to be cleaned and disinfected.

The entrepreneur is not expecting a big rush right from the start.

That is also because the Whitsun holidays begin.

"After a long time, people are keen on traveling, they want to get away," says Holland.

After the holidays, the guests would then be more.

It was still unclear on Thursday whether they would also be able to shower and use the sauna after their training in the studio.

“We don't know much yet,” says Holland's managing director Florian Dillinger.

One is waiting for the implementing regulations of the state government.

“3G” applies in any case: Tested, recovered, vaccinated.

Only members who can prove one of these knockout criteria at the entrance are allowed to train, says Dillinger.

In the district of Ebersberg, more and more violence against police officers has been detected.

In addition, Ebersberg is to get a burial ground for Muslims.
