The activities of the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development, launched by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), concluded today in the German capital Berlin with the title “We learn for our planet, work for sustainability”.
At the conclusion of the conference that started on May 17th, the participants recommended the necessity of taking urgent measures to address the tremendous interconnected challenges facing the world, stressing that education is a strong enabler for positive change and that education for sustainable development is the basis for the required transformation as it enables learners to develop their cognitive and non-cognitive skills. .
The Berlin Declaration, issued by the virtual conference and delivered in Syria through a press conference, Assistant Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Riyadh Tayfour, emphasized the importance of developing the capacities of teachers and empowering youth as agents of change by creating learning opportunities, providing them with skills and tools, harnessing the potential of new technologies and investing the power of education for the sake of Sustainable development to redesign our societies after the Corona pandemic.
From Syria, the Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbah, the Assistant Minister of Education, Dr. Abdul Hakim Al-Hammad, the Secretary of the UNESCO National Committee in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Nidal Hassan, and a number of stakeholders participated in the virtual conference.
