Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the necessity of managing the Arctic region on the basis of partnership and the agreement of the responsible countries, indicating that his country urges dialogue in the activities of the Arctic Council and avoids the confrontation approach.
The TASS news agency quoted Lavrov as saying through video conference on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Arctic Council that the settlement of problems arising in the Arctic region often requires the participation of international non-regional players. There are 38 of them currently.
Lavrov stressed the need not to boycott dialogue at various levels and not to engage the approach of confrontation and tension from outside, pointing to the need to manage the Arctic region on the basis of partnership and the consensus of the countries responsible for its development.
Lavrov pointed out that despite the complex situation in world affairs, relations between countries continue and are in a gradual development.
