"The bicycle road is an elementary building block for the implementation of the bicycle traffic concept", explained city architect Sebastian Dietrich in the most recent meeting of the building committee. He hopes that the expulsion from the school center will have a positive effect on pick-up and delivery traffic. "It should be a signal to come to school by bike or on foot, not with the parents' taxi," says Dietrich. The administration even estimates that the experience of this first bicycle road could help in the implementation of further bicycle roads in the city area.

Many a Schongauer would certainly like to leave their car behind, but you have to feel safe. You have to take the residents with you, of course, but for them it is more of an improvement than a deterioration.

Road users have to adjust to the changes first, says Sluyterman.

He emphasized that you do not have to dig deep into your pocket for the structural measure, it can be implemented with simple means.

Kornelia Funke (CSU) wished that the danger spot on the Rösslekellerberg would also be addressed at the same time.

This must result in a unit with the school center.

"There won't be a bicycle street there," Sluyterman waved off.

Now they want to focus on the area at the school center first.

She just wished that the area would be expanded as soon as possible, "wherever school children are out".

It was also important for Stephan Hild (UWV) to take the residents with them.

But you shouldn't expect too much from the Fahrradstraße, the “parents taxis” are not affected, anyone who has a concern is allowed to continue driving.

"It's not a real limitation," Hild pointed out.

Unfortunately, the signaling effect did not last long at the primary school either.

"But it is becoming less attractive for drivers," countered Sluyterman.

And finally, there is a beautiful and expensive pick-up and delivery zone that can be used, "it remains to be seen how this is naturalized in practice".

The bicycle road was decided unanimously.

What the desired extension of the garden path might look like should first be agreed with the residents.
