The first bicycle street in Schongau is to be identified at the school center.
The southern Fanschuhstraße and the Bürgermeister-Lechenbauer-Straße are under discussion, the Gartenweg is to follow.

Cyclists then have absolute priority in the southern Fanschuhstraße and the Bürgermeister-Lechenbauer-Straße north and south.
Actually, only cyclists are allowed to ride on a bicycle street, they are even allowed to ride next to each other.
If you exceptionally want to allow motorized traffic like residents, this must be specially signposted.
The maximum speed of 30 km / h applies.
Bicycle road supports bicycle traffic concept
"The bicycle road is an elementary building block for the implementation of the bicycle traffic concept", explained city architect Sebastian Dietrich in the most recent meeting of the building committee. He hopes that the expulsion from the school center will have a positive effect on pick-up and delivery traffic. "It should be a signal to come to school by bike or on foot, not with the parents' taxi," says Dietrich. The administration even estimates that the experience of this first bicycle road could help in the implementation of further bicycle roads in the city area.

The areas around the school are currently characterized by a forest of signs, as Martin Blockhaus from the municipal building authority clearly explained.
A decision in principle should be made.
After that, the residents still have to be involved.
In addition to the Schongau Police and Citizens Service, the “Team Radverkehr” also works.

As Mayor Falk Sluyterman informed, the city councilors Bettina Buresch (Greens), Mona Maucher (UWV), Hans Rehbehn (CSU) and Friedrich Zeller (SPD) have come together.
It was Zeller who recently suggested the establishment of this team at the city council meeting.
The suggestion of the Fahrradstraße around the school center was well received by the committee across the board. Ilona Böse (SPD) was in favor of including the garden path, which would mean a great deal of relaxation. She also saw the signal in the bicycle street that "the bicycle traffic has really arrived in Schongau and the cyclist will not be cornered". Many a Schongauer would certainly like to leave their car behind, but you have to feel safe. You have to take the residents with you, of course, but for them it is more of an improvement than a deterioration.
Road users have to adjust to the changes first, says Sluyterman.
He emphasized that you do not have to dig deep into your pocket for the structural measure, it can be implemented with simple means.
Kornelia Funke (CSU) wished that the danger spot on the Rösslekellerberg would also be addressed at the same time.
This must result in a unit with the school center.
"There won't be a bicycle street there," Sluyterman waved off.
Now they want to focus on the area at the school center first.

“It's no surprise that I'm thrilled,” said Buresch.
She just wished that the area would be expanded as soon as possible, "wherever school children are out".
A positive side effect in their eyes: That you can do without the forest of signs.
That is sometimes confusing, especially at the school center.
But the rights of cyclists have to be communicated well.
“If everyone rides next to each other, I could imagine that it would be emotional.” Overall, such solutions in the city of Schongau with its difficult topography would make switching to the bike more pleasant and safer.
It was also important for Stephan Hild (UWV) to take the residents with them.
But you shouldn't expect too much from the Fahrradstraße, the “parents taxis” are not affected, anyone who has a concern is allowed to continue driving.

"It's not a real limitation," Hild pointed out.
Unfortunately, the signaling effect did not last long at the primary school either.
"But it is becoming less attractive for drivers," countered Sluyterman.
And finally, there is a beautiful and expensive pick-up and delivery zone that can be used, "it remains to be seen how this is naturalized in practice".
The bicycle road was decided unanimously.
What the desired extension of the garden path might look like should first be agreed with the residents.
