The candidacy phase for the 11th President of Israel will end tonight (Wednesday), and in exactly two weeks the elections will take place - and the 24th Knesset members will choose who will serve for the next seven years and replace the outgoing President, Reuven Rivlin.
This morning, the chairman of the Jewish Agency, Yitzhak Herzog, officially announced that he would run for office, and he is expected to present a wide list of supporters from most factions, including Torah Judaism and Shas, who are expected to support him behind the curtain.
Herzog, the son of Sixth President Haim Herzog, wrote that he "believes that the next president of the State of Israel will be required to reconnect the rift between us; to mark a goal and chart a path beyond tomorrow."
Although he enjoys widespread support, Herzog is not the only candidate expected to run for office.
Miriam Peretz, who lost her two sons and has become a popular figure in the Israeli public in recent years, is also expected to compete, and most of the race is expected to focus on both.
In recent weeks, singer Yehoram Gaon, former MK Yehuda Glick, Prof. Shimon Sheetrit and others have also been working to recruit ten signatures of Knesset members so that they can apply for the position, but it is unclear whether they succeeded.

The presidential election will take place in two weeks, on June 2, and as part of it, Knesset members will secretly vote for one of the candidates who will serve for seven years.
The president will be elected by a majority of 61 MKs.
If in the first round of voting no candidate gets the required majority, there will be another round of voting, in which only the two candidates who received the largest number of votes in the first ballot will run.
The current presidential race will take place in the shadow of the ongoing political crisis, and in the absence of a government - this has an impact.
The Likud, New Hope and other parties have officially announced that they are allowing their members freedom of vote.
The elections held in the Knesset plenum are held in secret, and such an announcement does not have much significance, but it also indicates the inability to unite around one agreed-upon candidate on the right.
