Bastion of Patrick Devedjian since 2004, the canton of Antony is to be taken. It is also all the succession of the president (LR) of the council dep

The question had never arisen.

Since 2004, the canton of Antony was that of Patrick Devedjian (LR), former mayor of the town from 1983 to 2002. He was above all the president of the departmental council, from 2007 until his sudden death in March 2020, carried away by the Covid.

For a few months, the chair left empty was occupied by his deputy Jacques Legrand, while Georges Siffredi (LR) took over the reins of the department.

Last winter, Jean-Yves Sénant (LR), reelected mayor of Antony on March 15, 2020, in the first round of municipal elections for a fourth term, swept away the idea of being a candidate for the departmental elections.

Even though most of the other mayors of the department sit in this assembly, where the right and the center have reigned since its creation in 1968. He finally changed his mind.

Three big files to defend

"Jacques Legrand decided not to run and I therefore considered that it was up to me to go with Véronique Bergerol (

Editor's note: the outgoing departmental councilor, elected in tandem with Patrick Devedjian in 2015)

", justifies today 'hui Jean-Yves Sénant, acknowledging that he is not a follower of multiple mandates.

“But the department is very important for mayors,” he continues.

I could defend several important issues for the city.

"

The Anne-Franck college rehabilitation project, designed at the end of the 1970s by Jean Nouvel.

A project costing 39 million euros for the Hauts-de-Seine department.

Starting with the renovation of the Anne-Franck college, an establishment built at the end of the 1970s by Jean Nouvel, whose heritage interest will be preserved and enhanced.

A temporary site will accommodate the 600 students from September 2021 and during the two years of work, the cost of which is estimated at 39 million euros.

Another major project led by the department is the renovation and extension of the Grenouillère aquatic center, of which the department has owned and managed since 2016, for an estimated cost of 55 million euros.

Not to mention the water retention basin project between Antony and Fresnes (Val-de-Marne) to fight against flooding.

In June 2018, 600 homes in Antony found themselves with their feet in the water, after violent storms.

Files that Jean-Yves Sénant intends to follow closely, if he confirms to the departmental support of his citizens.

But unlike municipal officials, he already knows that low turnout projections will certainly lead him to a second round.

“It will also be a first for me, but I've already got used to the idea,” he says, while six other pairs are on the starting line.

The left this time divided in two

Unlike the municipal elections, where a single list of union of the left, carried by the Antony Terre Citoyenne collective, was presented, the left will be represented by two pairs.

With, on the one hand, the LFI-PCF tandem formed by Bruno Edouard and Irène Huard and, on the other, that of EELV-Génération.s composed by Julien Doyen and Béatrice Fromentin-Denozière.

"A broad union would have been desirable to convey the message that this department must do much more to reduce inequalities", recognizes Irène Huard (PCF), who has not succeeded in convincing the other components of the local left.

On the right, a pair was invested by LREM, with Catherine Favier and Laurent Souchaud.

And the former majority elected Isabelle Lajeunie (DVD), head of the dissident list in March 2020, teamed up with Dimitri Mongeot.

"This is not the second round of the municipal elections but I am consistent in my commitment to move the city forward", immediately specifies Isabelle Lajeunie, before continuing: "Mr. Sénant did not want to hold all the powers, let's take the word!

"

Finally, the National Rally (RN) is represented by Laetitia Lemoine and Luc Doumont.

The latter has been talked about in recent weeks, because he was Secretary General of Unsa (National Union of Autonomous Trade Unions) Finance, Industry and Services of the Prime Minister.

A position from which he had to resign following his investiture in the departmental by the party of Marine Le Pen.
