Every year, the Geneva International Invention Exhibition brings together inventions from many countries around the world to compete against each other. The Director of the Development Bureau, Wong Wai Lun, stated in his blog today (23) that the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department won 4 gold awards and 4 silver awards in the exhibition, one of which won a gold award. It is the "intelligent escalator real-time monitoring system", when the escalator "stuck", it will immediately notify the management staff to remove the obstacles with their mobile phones.

According to Au Ziwei, a senior engineer (general legislation) of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, through the intelligent escalator real-time monitoring system, management or maintenance personnel can use computers or mobile phones to monitor the daily operation of the escalator.

According to the information on the website of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, there have been more than 360 escalator accidents in the first three months of this year. Among them, 11 involved foreign objects and 5 were injured due to mechanical failures.

A monitoring system developed by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department in collaboration with industries, start-ups and universities uses the vibration of the upper comb plate of the escalator and optical fiber sensing technology. If an obstacle is stuck, it will automatically send an alarm to notify the management staff.

The monitoring system can also calculate the flow of people on the escalator, and the maintenance personnel can evaluate the loss of parts according to the data, and take preventive maintenance as soon as possible to reduce incidents.

Wong Wai-lun said that there are currently 8 escalator installation systems tested in Hong Kong, including outdoor covered walkways, government complexes and large shopping malls, as well as the Airport Authority and MTR.

Another silver award-winning invention is the "Air Filter 2.0", which can automatically monitor air quality. It will automatically open when not in use, allowing air to be sent out directly. This saves 20% to 30% of power consumption compared with traditional filters, and saves energy. row.

Huang Weilun said that he expects more departments to apply new technologies to optimize services and support the development of smart cities.
