Exactly 3922 steep and long since no longer safe and stable metal steps are around 700 meters up "up to the sky" on Hawaii's most famous "hiking trail".
It is an adventure that requires a lot of stamina and courage - and has less to do with hiking than with "climbing and mud battles". Especially since the two (in proper style in red MTV jackets) did not take the officially forbidden steps, but the steep, "long way around the outside of the mountain ridge". “It was a six hour hike at night. We wanted to be up at sunrise and started in the valley at half past two in the morning, ”says Spitzer. “It felt like I died a thousand deaths on the ascent”, but the “awesome view” at the destination made all the hardships forgotten.
Why Hawaii? Sophie Bauer from Fischen took a few courses at the "Hawaii Pacific University" in Honolulu to complete her business studies there. And Krissi Spitzer from Penzingen, who is studying at the “Ursuline College” in Cleveland (Ohio), visited her for almost three weeks on her way back to Germany. They have already experienced a lot together: “We surf every other day and have already been skydiving. Football tennis and jogging in the park and on the beach, beach volleyball and just swimming in the sea - there is really a lot on offer here. "
The two MTV girls still have a few days left for planned “further activities and hikes” in their “paradise, but sometimes also boot camp” in the Pacific Ocean, then they head back home.
Krissi flies back on May 25th and arrives on the 27th, Sophie one day later.
Then they can play football again in Diessen.
The MTV women have already started training again.
"Twice a week, with a corona test before training," explains coach Nico Weis.
And who pays for the tests?
Weis: "The girls themselves."
