Protests in Colombia have left at least 27 dead and more than 2,000 injured, according to the Defense Ministry
Bad moment for the departure of Ceballos?
Ceballos first confirmed his departure in an interview published this Saturday in the newspaper El Tiempo.
The still official, who has participated in the attempts to establish a negotiating table with the National Unemployment Committee to try to reach agreements that put an end to the protests registered in the country since April 28, rejected in the interview with the daily that he leaves because he "could not" with that responsibility.
«People will know how to value the effort that the Peace Commissioner has made.
First, for installing a table that had no hope of being installed.
Second, by listening and understanding the counterpart and assessing their positions.
And third, having valued them, not having sacrificed the essential aspects of the institutionality.
Nothing has been left halfway here, "he told El Tiempo.
The discontent behind Colombia's protests won't go away anytime soon
He insisted that his is "work accomplished" because it is not his responsibility to negotiate, but rather to "create an agenda for talks" and agree with the National Unemployment Committee on the guarantees for peaceful social protest.
On Twitter, Ceballos spoke on Saturday in the same direction.
"I accepted the mandate of the president to lead the meetings with the promoters of unemployment, in order to contribute to the search for solutions through the generation of trust and consensus."
Until this Saturday, the government and the representatives of the Committee had held four meetings without being able to establish a negotiating table.
