Berlin / London - The Federal Government and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) have designated Great Britain as a virus variant area in the course of the corona pandemic *.

Since Sunday, May 23, there are therefore severe restrictions on entry into Germany.

The reason for the classification is the Indian coronavirus variant B.1.617.2, which is now also spreading in Great Britain.

Over 3,400 cases of the variant have been confirmed so far (as of May 19).

With the new designation, airlines, bus and train companies are only allowed to take people with German citizenship or German place of residence to Germany.

Anyone crossing the border has to go into quarantine for 14 days.

These two weeks of isolation are mandatory and cannot be shortened by a negative corona test result.

This also applies to those who have recovered and who have been vaccinated, as can be seen from the German government's coronavirus entry regulation: "After staying in virus variant areas, the quarantine lasts 14 days and it is not possible to end the quarantine early."
