The Centre for Health Protection announced today (23rd) that the initial confirmed case was a 46-year-old Filipino woman who was a domestic helper.

She went to Pakistan with her former employer’s family in early February this year. She returned to Hong Kong from Pakistan on April 3 and was quarantined at the Ramada Seaview Hotel in Xiyingpan from April 3 to 23. After the quarantine was completed, she visited her former employer from April 24 to 29. The residence at No. 31 Dawangxia Village was temporarily moved to the residence of the prospective employer at Block 6, Victoria Harbour, Tai Kok Tsui.

She was tested at the community testing center on April 28 and May 7 and the results were negative. Then, in compliance with the mandatory testing announcement, she went to the community testing center at the Leong Hsien Lee Yau Ma Tei Community Center on May 22 and the results were preliminary positive.

The test conducted by the Public Health Laboratory Service Office of the Department of Health initially showed that the patient had the N501Y mutant virus strain, but did not carry the E484K and L452R mutant genes. The patient had no symptoms. The center has arranged to send close contacts of the patient to the quarantine center.

The Center for Health Protection announced earlier that for cases with unknown sources involving N501Y mutant virus strains, once it learns that there is a preliminary diagnosis or confirmed results, the government will make restrictions and test announcements to close the area for testing, home contacts of confirmed cases and other residential units. Residents in the building must undergo a 21-day quarantine, and all other residents living in the building must be subject to mandatory testing on the 3rd, 7th, 12th and 19th day after the confirmed patient leaves the building. When more cases are found in the same building, there will be Evidence shows that there is transmission, all residents of the building will be classified as close contacts and subject to 21-day quarantine.
