It was very hot today and many people went to the beaches to cool off, but unfortunately, a drowning accident occurred in Cheung Chau.
The incident occurred at about 5 pm today (23rd) when a male swimmer in his 50s was suspected of being drowning while swimming outside the Tung Bay Beach area of Cheung Chau. The lifeguard rescued him when he was found, but the male swimmer was the only one. When he was rescued, he was in a coma with no breathing or pulse. The staff of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department immediately called the police for help.
An ambulance rushed the male swimmer to Cheung Chau Hospital, but he was found dead.
The police are investigating the incident.
There were more than 3 minutes of footage filming the rescue and first aid process of lifeguards. 3 lifeguards went into the water to lift the drowning swimmers to the shore, and then there were reinforcements by other lifeguards. They relayed their efforts to pressure the unconscious swimmers First aid, during which he patted the swimmer's thigh and kept shouting: "Get up!" Some lifeguards also asked the onlookers to disperse.
After completing the first round of extracardiac pressure first aid, they raised their hands to ask everyone to disperse, and then proceeded to the next round of first aid, yelling: "Guess! Guess! Continue! Continue! Wake up!".
A lifeguard later took first aid supplies and a manual respirator to give the swimmer a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) first aid. Unfortunately, the swimmer was not regained consciousness.
