Trouble with used cars?

Not an unknown topic.

The case of a Swabian woman, however, is rather bizarre.

It is an older model of the popular BMW M3 sports coupé.

Schwäbisch Gmünd - If you want to buy a BMW, you usually choose a used car and not a new model. In Germany, however, this also applies to other brands. Because this car market is much larger than that for new vehicles. When buying a car privately, however, used models have no guarantee - and you have to take a much closer look to see whether the desired object has any technical deficits. In the case of a trailer from Baden-Württemberg, buying a used car went really bad.

As

Bild.de

describes, the now 73-year-old bought a used BMW M3 of the E46 series (production period 2000 to 2006) a few years ago.

In the following period, Brigitte M. was almost not supposed to drive the 343 hp sports coupé from Munich at all; instead, the model of the Bavarian manufacturer, which started with record sales in 2021, quickly developed into a problem case.

BMW M3 (E46): dream object of many fans as the "nightmare of my life"

First of all, the BMW M3 had to go to the workshop with a broken crankshaft and cylinder head, which cost more than 3000 euros. According to the report, a workshop should not have got the sporty car in good shape. The mechanic “fiddled with the car forever, then transported the engine to Austria. I paid another 2000 euros, then another 1700 euros, ”the portal quotes the disappointed customer. That makes about 7,000 euros without the M3 being able to be used by BMW for its actual purpose - driving on the road.

And that should not change: Allegedly, the workshop did not move the car out, which is why Brigitte W. dragged the operator to court.

Now a judgment was made in the proceedings (Az. 1 0 281/20), according to which Brigitte W., accompanied by a bailiff, was finally allowed to pick up the car, but without the drive unit: “There was nothing under the bonnet.

(...) The engine is to be delivered later.

It's the biggest nightmare of my life. "

The workshop owner also has a

- and it turns out that a well-known phenomenon was decisive: the fear of exploding workshop costs. At the beginning of 2018, the son of the BMW owner asked that the repair be stopped in view of the lack of funds. The outstanding amount was then transferred after all, before, however, surprisingly, the lawsuit for completion took place.

However, the workshop only offered a limited warranty if another workshop finalized the work on the object in dispute. Now the plaintiff is there with a car, but still without an engine - despite costs of several thousand euros. It comes as no surprise that the repairs of premium vehicles like BMW cost a lot of money. Buyers should be aware of this, even with used vehicles. Of course, this also applies to cars from other brands, especially from the upscale sector: This pensioner experienced a “ride through Tesla's service hell”.
