Protests and sit-ins, the discussion about abortion intensifies 3:30

Hundreds of people dressed in green demonstrated this Sunday in Santo Domingo to demand the decriminalization of abortion in certain risky circumstances in the Dominican Republic.
The demonstration, called by the organizers as "March for the life and dignity of girls and women" and led by the movement Las Tres Causales Van, demands the decriminalization of abortion when the pregnancy represents a risk to the life of the woman, be it the result of rape or incest, or there are fetal malformations incompatible with life.
The Dominican Constitution currently prohibits abortion in its entirety.
Reactions to the decriminalization of abortion in case of rape in Ecuador
The Chamber of Deputies approved at the end of April the bill to amend the Penal Code to include only one defense for the prohibition of abortion.
This defense frees from criminal guilt the specialized medical personnel who interrupt the pregnancy if they previously exhausted the means to save the life of the mother and the fetus.
The Chamber of Deputies must vote a second time to ratify the bill, after which it will go on for debate in the Senate.
The legislative calendar concludes at the end of July.
If the Senate approves it as is, it will go to the Executive Power for enactment or veto.

President Luis Abinader has said that although he rejects the total decriminalization of abortion, he accepts the interruption of pregnancy in certain circumstances.
