The Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health said today (24th) that it is investigating an outbreak of upper respiratory tract infection involving 21 children in the kindergarten (Xinghuiju), all in stable condition.

The kindergarten was included in the mandatory test announcement on the 26th of last month to rule out the possibility of contracting the new coronavirus. The center has asked the kindergarten to suspend classes for at least five days for cleaning.

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating the outbreak of upper respiratory tract infection in the kindergarten of Sham Shui Po School (Sing Hui Ju), and appeals to the public and staff of institutions to be vigilant and maintain personal and environmental hygiene at all times.

An upper respiratory tract infection was reported in the kindergarten of Xinghui Juxuezhi Kindergarten, involving 21 school children.

The case involved 11 boys and 10 girls aged between 3 and 5 years old. Since the 20th of last month, they have developed cough, runny nose, fever and sore throat. Among them, 17 have sought medical treatment, and 1 of them has been treated. Has been discharged from the hospital, and everyone is in stable condition.

Staff of the Centre for Health Protection have provided advice on the prevention of respiratory infections to the kindergarten, which is under medical supervision.

In addition, because the symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection are similar to the new coronavirus, kindergartens have been included in the mandatory test announcement on the 26th of last month to rule out the possibility of infection with the new coronavirus.
