hopes for a thaw are based on the elections at the end of June, when the French will draw in the ballot box the last full-scale balance of power before entering the presidential year.

A deadline that we observe closely at the Elysee, especially towards the right where several heavyweights are hoping for a clear victory to establish their candidacy: Xavier Bertrand in Hauts-de-France, Valérie Pécresse in Île-de-France. France and Laurent Wauquiez in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
All three are given fairly largely winners in their respective regions.
Hence a relative serenity in the majority at the idea of seeing the three putative candidates of the right propelled against each other at the start of the school year to decide between themselves.
