Parliament Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh, during his meeting today with a delegation from the Iraqi Parliament, affirmed the depth of the Syrian-Iraqi relations, noting Iraq's continuous support to Syria in various fields.

Sabbagh expressed his appreciation for the Iraqi parliament’s response to the invitation addressed to it to keep pace with the presidential election process and to see its course on the 26th of this month, calling for the development of the Syrian-Iraqi parliamentary relations and pushing them forward to achieve the aspiration of the two brotherly peoples.

For his part, the head of the delegation, a member of the Iraqi parliament, Kata Al-Rikabi, affirmed his country's firm position in support of Syria, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, indicating that the Syrian presidential elections represent a victory for the will of the Syrian people and a testament to their ability to overcome all adversities and difficulties, indicating the importance of strengthening and developing parliamentary relations and exchanging visits between the People's Assembly In Syria and the Iraqi parliament.

The meeting was attended by a number of members of the People's Assembly, members of the Iraqi parliamentary delegation, and the Chargé d'Affairs at the Iraqi embassy in Damascus, Yassin al-Hajimi.

Parliament Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh also met with a delegation from the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly headed by Zahra Lahian, head of the Human Rights Committee of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Council.

During the meeting, Sabbagh emphasized the depth and strength of the historical Syrian-Iranian relations, expressing his thanks to the Council for responding to the invitation addressed to it to participate in accompanying the presidential elections and its appreciation for Iran's permanent support to the Syrian people in all fields.

Sabbagh stressed the need to strengthen various aspects of bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries, especially the parliamentary ones, in a way that contributes to achieving common interests and exchanging experiences between the two sides.

For her part, Lahian saw that the presidential elections that will take place the day after tomorrow represent an important and fateful turning point in the modern history of Syria and contribute directly to achieving a bright and prosperous future for the Syrian people, who have suffered for years from the terrorist war, with many victories and achievements against terrorism and its supporters.

Al-Lahian clarified that supporting Syria in all fields represents a “steadfast position in the supreme strategy” of her country, expressing her thanks for the invitation extended by the Syrian People's Assembly to the Iranian Shura Council to accompany the presidential elections, which is evidence of the transparency and integrity of these elections.

The meeting was attended by a number of parliament members, members of the Iranian delegation, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Syria, Dr. Mahdi Sobhani, and members of the accompanying Iranian media delegation.
