When I saw the circus around the establishment of a committee of inquiry into the Meron disaster, I was ashamed of my choice - Walla! news

Unless a state commission of inquiry is set up into the disaster that claimed the lives of 45 people, no answers will be given to questions such as who is to blame, why the warnings were ignored and what to do so that such cases do not recur. An investigation headed by a Supreme Court judge is an investigation that will be ruled by politicians, and that is exactly what they want to achieve.

In the last two years, since Israel found itself in an endless political crisis, I have voted in the Knesset elections for Torah Judaism. As an ultra-Orthodox, a person whose first and last word in life is that of the rabbis, it was the right thing to do. I do not regret it. The party's representatives are exceptional parliamentarians who fight day and night for the interests of their constituents. At least that's what I thought, until I saw today the circus in which some of them fought in the Knesset against the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the Meron disaster. I was ashamed of the public representatives I chose to fight for our interests. I was ashamed that they did the exact opposite. Take care of the businessmen and themselves. God forbid there be anyone who will say they are guilty.

The disaster that occurred about a month ago is the largest civilian disaster since the establishment of the state.

He claimed the lives of 45 people, leaving behind 61 orphans and 19 widows.

Who will give them answers to questions like: Who is to blame?

Why were all the warnings ignored?

Where should be repaired and what should be done so that such cases do not recur?

Unless a state commission of inquiry is set up, they will not be given.

An investigation headed by a Supreme Court judge is an investigation that will be ruled by politicians, and that is exactly what they want to achieve.

"As I can not understand what the needs are in a football match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, a referee can not understand what our public needs in Meron," explained H. Shas and Torah Judaism why there should be opposition to the establishment of a state commission of inquiry. As Tessler of Torah Judaism.

Another MK added: "We will not vote for a Yesh Atid proposal that only aims to do politics on the backs of the dead."

This claim may have been true if the ultra-Orthodox Knesset members had rushed to advance a thorough investigation even before Lapid submitted his proposal. Of a public committee not headed by a judge, when the Knesset was still under the control of the Netanyahu bloc, had the prime minister been in a hurry to convene the government to set up a commission of inquiry.

Representatives of the ultra-Orthodox public had to demand the establishment of a commission of inquiry a day after the disaster.

Since this did not happen, the explanations are excuses aimed at whitewashing or smearing one of the great disasters that have occurred in Israel, and in such a situation one can only conclude: Another disaster is only a matter of time.

Despite the great pessimism, it is not too late to recover.

Representatives of Shas and Torah Judaism can go back on them, admit they were wrong, demand that Netanyahu set up a commission of inquiry with teeth that will thoroughly and significantly investigate what happened and draw conclusions about what to do next year. If it was the recruitment or conversion law, Coalition crisis.
