The police conducted anti-triad operations in Tai Po and Sheung Shui. They raided more than 50 locations for four consecutive days and arrested 64 people. The youngest arrested was only 14 years old.
During the operation, the police discovered that a tenement unit in Tai Po was used to operate an unlicensed bar. 48 people were forced to fill the 700-square-foot unit. The police criticized the lack of epidemic prevention and social isolation in the bar, and condemned reckless and selfish behavior.
Tai Po Police District Assistant Commander (Criminal) Superintendent Chong Sing-yet stated that in order to combat illegal activities and intercept triad income sources, the Criminal Division of the Tai Po Police District worked with members of the Special Duty Squads, Tai Po and Sheung Shui, to fight against illegal activities. Starting on Saturday (22nd), a four-day operation, code-named "Operation Gangfire", raided more than 50 locations in the area and arrested 64 people, 55 men and 9 women, with the assistance of personnel from the Tactical Unit and the Immigration Department. Between the ages of 14 and 76, some of them have triad background and are suspected of operating illegal gambling stalls, illegal gambling, robbery, wounding, and gathering for fighting.
During the operation, in the early hours of last Saturday morning, the anti-triad group of the Tai Po Police District, together with special task forces and mobile units, raided an upstairs bar in Tai Po. The site was a 700-square-foot residential unit in a tenement building with a total of 48 people. They were arrested, 41 men and 7 women, aged between 20 and 50. The police seized audio equipment and more than 400 bottles of alcoholic beverages.
After investigation, it is believed that the bar has been in operation for about a month and is linked to local triad members.
The arrested persons were arrested on suspicion of selling alcohol without a license and drinking in places without a liquor license. At the same time, they violated the gathering restriction order and the officers issued a ticket to the arrested person.
Zhuang Chengyi said that under the government and the public's active fight against the epidemic, criminals operated and opened upstairs bars, gathering 48 people in a 700-square-foot unit. There was no epidemic prevention and social isolation in the bar, and he condemned reckless and selfish behavior.
The police reiterated that they will continue to use intelligence to combat illegal activities and intercept triad sources of income.
