A parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Belarus arrived in Damascus this morning to accompany the presidential election process and to be informed of its course, in response to an invitation from the People's Assembly.

In an interview with SANA’s delegate between the Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Governmental Construction, Local Administration and Regulations, a member of the Belarusian-Syrian Friendship Committee in the Belarusian Parliament, Seminyak Valentin, that the committee he heads is specialized in following up the mechanisms and systems of the elections. .

Valentine pointed out that he saw a clear interest on the part of the Syrians to hold elections, which shows their belief in their right to choose their future and who represents them.

In turn, Sergey Serankov, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Belarusian Parliament, indicated that holding the presidential elections in Syria on its constitutional date is evidence of people's confidence and commitment to the laws and regulations in force in their country, pointing to the state of security and stability that he has observed since his arrival in Damascus.

Serankov condemned the positions of some countries and Western politicians who made prejudices about the electoral process in Syria, stressing that the Syrian people alone have the right to decide the future of their country without foreign interference or pressure.

Serrankov pointed out that the presence of 3 candidates for the presidency in Syria, including opponents, is evidence that these elections are open, frank and transparent, again emphasizing that the Syrian people determine who they want for this position.

A number of parliamentary and media delegations, including specialists and experts in electoral affairs, arrived in Damascus during the past days, with the aim of keeping pace with the conduct of the elections and knowing their mechanisms.
