The Canaries are one of the most popular travel destinations for Germans - and no longer a corona risk area.

What you have to consider when entering the country.

The wait is over: for a short time now, the German government has ceased to classify the Canary Islands as a risk area.

Conversely, this means that traveling to the fascinating archipelago in the Atlantic is finally largely uncomplicated again.

Canary Islands vacation despite the corona pandemic: These are the current entry rules

Because the corona incidence in the Canaries is constantly below 50, there is currently no travel warning on the islands. Nevertheless, some rules must be observed when traveling to the holiday paradise: These include, among other things, the still

mandatory negative PCR or TMA test result

, which must already be presented at the airport. It must not be older than 72 hours and must be available electronically or in paper form. An exception applies to children under six years of age.

In addition, travelers to Spain generally have to fill out a digital health form before departure. A QR code is generated from this and must be presented on arrival. The free SpTH app can also be used for this. Vacationers who have a smartphone also have to install the Corona app "Radar Covid" during their stay in the Canary Islands. This enables the tourists to network with the local health authorities and to be kept up to date with important information about the corona pandemic in Spain.

Anyone staying in a hotel, holiday home or holiday apartment must also present a negative corona test when checking in.

To do this, the same test can be used that was presented on entry.

When returning to Germany, there is

neither a quarantine nor a test obligation

, as the Canary Islands are no longer a risk area.

As a result, the digital entry registration does not have to be carried out either.

Holidays in the Canary Islands 2021: the best places to visit on the islands

Due to the proximity to the European mainland, the year-round mild climate and the diversity of the various islands, the Canaries are a true holiday paradise and are not only extremely popular with German tourists. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of secret hotspots to discover on the seven islets. Below is an overview of a selection of particularly worthwhile destinations.

  • Gran Canaria

: Gran Canaria shines with countless hours of sunshine, a pulsating nightlife and great variety. Because of the different landscapes on the island, Gran Canaria is often referred to as a mini continent, which combines massive rock faces, dry valleys, desert-like areas, wide sandy beaches, high dunes and plants from Europe, America and Africa. A real eye-catcher is the old lighthouse of Maspalomas, which has been showing the ships off the coast of the island since 1890. In the laurel forest of Los Tilos de Moya, guests can expect a number of scenic circular hiking trails, on which the full power of nature can be felt.

  • Lanzarote

: If you land on Lanzarote, you feel transported into another world.

    The originality, especially with regard to volcanism, shows itself in breathtaking lunar and crater landscapes;

black lava rock and ash form a wonderful contrast to the white houses and the deep blue sea off the coast.

As the most beautiful beach on the island and perhaps even in the entire archipelago, Playa Mujeres is a real insider tip.

The mostly natural beach consists of pebbles and sand - the sea is turquoise and crystal clear.

In addition, the mystical rock formations of Guatiza are always worth a visit.

The bizarre place was once created by human hands and still enchants with its ghostly flair.

  • El Hierro:

As the smallest of the Canary Islands, El Hierro has been largely spared from mass tourism to this day. There are no larger hotels, instead visitors spend the night in small casas or villas, mostly with a fantastic view of the sea. Bathing opportunities are rather few and far between - the few natural pebble and sandy beaches are all the more beautiful, framed by impressive volcanic rock formations, with colorful sand or natural swimming pools. The Iglesia de la Concepción is the fortress church of the island's capital Valverde and, as one of the most magnificent buildings on El Hierro, a sightseeing must for all island visitors. The Faro de Orchilla lighthouse on the west coast of the island is no less impressive - in the past the imposing structure not only marked the westernmost point of the Canary Islands, but also the world known at the time.

  • Fuerteventura

: Beach, sun, sea, waves - Fuerteventura is not only the oldest Canary Island, but is also considered the bathing paradise of the archipelago. The comparatively flat landscape consists mostly of miles of wide sandy beaches, many of which exude Caribbean charm. In addition, the island is one of the most popular surfing spots in the Canary Islands and divers also appreciate the island mainly because of the numerous underground cave systems off the coast. The sun shines almost always on Fuerteventura and makes the island a dream destination in every season. Vacationers will find the most beautiful village on the island in Betancuria. The sleepy community is both the smallest and the most historically significant place on Fuerteventura. Who longs for even more deceleration, visits the caves of Los Molinos on the west coast of the island. There is no cell phone reception here - instead, a grandiose natural spectacle and plenty of fine sandy beach.

  • Tenerife

: The largest island in the Canary Islands promises holiday enjoyment for young and old.Bathing, hiking, water sports, sightseeing - everything can be perfectly combined on Tenerife. The island's landscape is also diverse: impressive cliffs and mountain ranges including Spain's highest mountain, Pico el Teide, beautiful beaches, lush and flowering vegetation zones as well as fruit and vegetable plantations in the highlands make Tenerife an experience for all the senses. A special highlight is a swim in Garachico's lava pool - the natural pool is located on the north coast of the island and was created by volcanic activity. The picturesque beach of Playa de la Teita is no less worth seeing.which extends right next to the majestic volcanic cone Montaña Roja for around one kilometer and knows how to enchant with black sand.

  • La Palma

: The island of La Palma lives up to its name and is above all one thing: wonderfully green! Of course, the island also offers beautiful beaches with black volcanic sand, but due to the extremely steep coasts, the northwesternmost of the Canary Islands is only partially suitable for swimming. Instead, the island attracts vacationers who want to spend a few quiet days in a beautiful natural idyll and marvel at the forests, gorges and views of the sea on a dense network of well-developed hiking trails. An unknown hotspot on La Palma is the town of Santo Domingo de Garafia in the north of the island. Time seems to have stood still here - the village is full of ancient buildings and yet captivates with traditional charm. The Prois Candelaria smugglers' bay also knows how to inspire: simple,Small houses built close to the rock cluster here in the shadow of a rock overhang around a picturesque stretch of coast.

  • La Gomera

: La Gomera is an exotic paradise away from mass tourism and used to be a dropout and hippie stronghold. Accordingly, the island appears untouched to its visitors. Instead of huge hotel castles, small holiday homes and fincas are spread over the whole island on La Gomera, nestling in lush forests and colorful gardens, wide palm groves. In addition to a handful of beaches in the seaside resorts, there are hidden, deserted bays around the island that can only be reached on foot. From the Mirador de El Rejo viewpoint, holidaymakers can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the picturesque Hermigua valley. Those who prefer to be enchanted by old myths should visit the source of Chorros de Epina. The place is a popular destination for the locals in summer and promises everyonewho drink from the water from the spring, eternal love.
