France needs New Caledonia.
I love this extraordinary territory with a tormented history, one of the world's leading nickel producers, which allows us to be the last European Union country present in the Pacific since Brexit.
New Caledonia, for its part, needs France in the face of China's appetites in this region of the world.
I hope that it will remain French in a form that will have to be reinvented, but it is obviously the Caledonian citizens who will decide.
