Berlin - The German economy is slowly recovering, the light at the end of the tunnel seems closer.

According to the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the gross domestic product should grow again by one to two percent in the current quarter and thus compensate for the decline from the previous quarter.

Nevertheless, Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) wants to extend the state Corona aid for companies beyond June 30.

"I promise you: We will continue this as long as there is a significant number of companies that continue to suffer from the long-term consequences of Corona," says Altmaier of the

Corona aid: Duration of the extension still has to be discussed

The duration of the extension of the so-called bridging aid III still has to be discussed in the federal government.

“I would actually like to extend it until the end of the year, because I know that many businesses will need a while to catch up with everything,” Altmaier continues.

The prerequisite for the aid is that sales are at least 30 percent below the previous year.

Then you can specify certain fixed costs and receive other benefits.

Simplified short-time work benefits: additional costs of 2.6 billion euros

Altmaier is following an announcement by Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD).

He had already said at the weekend that the simplified short-time allowance rules will be extended until at least the end of September.

This gives companies planning security and perspective in this difficult phase, said Heil to the

editorial network Germany (RND)

.

The renewed extension of the regulations, which actually expire on June 30, will cost an additional 2.6 billion euros.

"Short-time working is expensive, but unemployment is more expensive - for the Federal Employment Agency and for society as a whole," the minister justified the decision.
