Otterfing is there: In association with other northern municipalities and the district, the municipality wants to get into the MVG rental bike system.

The loan and return station should be at the train station.

There was only one vote against in the local council.

Otterfing

- A rental bike system for Otterfing, has the time come for that? Will this new type of mobility be accepted, can it really replace car journeys? The Otterfinger municipal councils approached the MVG Rad project, which the northern municipalities want to roll out with the district, skeptically. In the end, the committee voted almost unanimously in favor of an attempt by the group. Only Josef Killer (FWG) voted against this: "It is not one of the community's compulsory tasks to be a bike rental company."

As in the preliminary advisory building committee, the building authority manager Hubert Zellner made it clear that the first thing to do was to “nudge the district”, to get into the MVG bike system.

The Munich district, where the rental bike system was introduced in 2015, should serve as a model.

According to Zellner, there are over 100,000 loans per month and around 125,000 customers have registered.

"Rental bikes can be an important addition to trains and buses to attach the last or the first kilometer," believes Mayor Michael Falkenhahn (SPD).

Zellner referred in particular to the option of reaching the Kreuzstrasse or Holzkirchen train stations;

Inner-city connections, for example to the industrial park, are also conceivable.

"Perhaps a larger employer will also participate."

The community has to reckon with a deficit

The municipality is initially considering a fixed station at the train station for up to five bikes. The Free State would pay 80 percent, the district and municipality ten percent each. Otterfing should therefore expect start-up financing of around 1200 euros. In addition, there is the assumption of a possible operating deficit that is shared in the district of Munich district and municipalities. Robert Schüßlbauer (CSU) wanted to know how high that could be. There are no reliable numbers, said Zellner. "We will always have to reckon with a deficit, especially in the introductory phase," said Falkenhahn.

Ulrike Stockmeier (FWO) confessed that her first euphoria was gone.

“What about in winter when nobody rides a bike?” The mayor emphasized that people now cycle all year round.

But Hubert Baldauf (Greens) also had doubts.

If the bikes were standing on Schliersee or Tegernsee, he could imagine a tourist use: "But I don't think that the rental bikes prevent many car journeys here in Otterfing."

The Otterfinger would like the Sauerlacher to join now

Hildegard Huil (Greens) would like the neighboring community of Sauerlach, which has not yet joined the MVG bike system, to jump up.

Falkenhahn wants to advertise it: “You would no longer be at the end of the line.” The only dissenting voice came from Josef Killer (FWO): “If the district wants that, it should pay for it alone.” In Otterfing there is an S-Bahn , Buses, the collective call taxi (AST): "I see no need for rental bikes."

In addition to Otterfing, Holzkirchen, Weyarn and most recently Valley have agreed to apply to the district council for the introduction of the MVG rental bike system.

Waakirchen and Warngau refused.

Maria Dießl (CSU), local councilor in Otterfing and district councilor, sees good chances of getting the project up and running: "I expect great approval in the district council."
