Verónica Chávez, director of the closed 100% Noticias;

María Lilly Delgado, correspondent for Univisión in Nicaragua;

and two other former workers of the Violeta Barrios Foundation, the journalist Lourdes Arróliga and Guillermo Medrano.

The summons from the Prosecutor's Office, sent this Monday, respond to an investigation initiated by the Ministry of the Interior against the opposition presidential candidate Cristiana Chamorro Barrios, as reported by some of the persons mentioned and human rights organizations through their social networks.

María Lilly Delgado, a correspondent for Univisión in Nicaragua, expressed this Monday on her Twitter account that the appointment is part of what she considers a plan to "silence the independent press in the country."

"I was summoned this afternoon, a few hours before to a stagecoach tomorrow at 8 am," said the journalist.

And he added: "They intend to implicate me in the same arbitrary process of alleged 'money laundering' that they continue against Cristiana Chamorro."

Later he declared: «We believe that it is part of a plan to silence and really intimidate all kinds of critical voices, all kinds of voices that denounce the crisis that Nicaragua is experiencing, the systematic crisis of human rights violations that we do not just say. journalists, international organizations say it, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights says it, the United Nations says it (…) that is not false news ».

Cristiana Chamorro told CNN last Thursday that the accusations against her for alleged laundering of money, property and assets to the detriment of the State of Nicaragua constitute a montage of "monstrous and terrible" actions to prevent citizens from working for Nicaragua.

The Public Ministry has not provided further details of this case and does not allow the entry of independent media to its facilities.

They denounce "fierce persecution" against journalists

The Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) strongly condemned the summons through its social networks, which it considered "absurd and incriminating" in the framework of the case of "money laundering" that, according to the agency, was "fabricated for the regime ”Ortega-Murillo against Cristiana Chamorro.

For Cenidh, "this is part of a fierce persecution against independent journalism, an outrage against the civil and political rights of Nicaraguans."

For his part, José Miguel Vivanco, the executive director of the Division for the Americas of Human Rights Watch (HRW), expressed on his social networks: “The Daniel Ortega regime in Nicaragua no longer knows what to invent to silence journalists.

Now they open a process for alleged 'money laundering' to María Lilly Delgado, Univision correspondent.

All my support and solidarity with María Lilly Delgado ", said Vivanco.
