The Kremlin announced today that it has been agreed to hold talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden in Geneva on June 16 to discuss issues of strategic stability and resolving regional conflicts.
Sputnik news agency quoted the Kremlin press service as saying in a statement, "According to the agreement reached, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, will hold talks with the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, on June 16 in Geneva."
The statement added that the two presidents "will discuss the situation and prospects for developing Russian-American relations, issues of strategic stability, as well as vital issues, including cooperation in combating the Coronavirus pandemic and settling regional conflicts."
Yesterday, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that holding a summit meeting between Putin and Biden is important to overcome the tense situation in the relations between the two countries, noting that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov briefed Putin in detail on the results of his talks with his American counterpart Anthony Blinken in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik.
