The discussion on the abolition of the obligation to wear masks in enclosed spaces was postponed for at least two weeks, despite the decision to remove most of the corona regulations and return to routine.

The Ministry of Health made the decision to postpone the hearing despite Health Minister Yuli Edelstein's announcement, citing the need to examine the removal of the green and purple mark and its effect on morbidity.

Initially, Magen Israel, the national program to fight the Corona virus, thought that the situation would allow the masks to be removed at the entrance to places with a green mark, provided that all present were vaccinated or recovered - but because all public places will be open to everyone next week and without distinction, there was concern.

In a decision published yesterday, it was emphasized that the restrictions at Ben Gurion Airport will not be removed and, if necessary, even tightened.

The Ministry of Health and Magen Israel decided to examine the effect of removing the green mark on morbidity indices and only then hold a discussion on the removal of the masks.

That is, the abolition of the obligation to wear masks, if approved, will begin in at least two weeks.

Senior ministry officials believe that mass infection is not expected, but due to recent cases of infection, including several police officers and residents of a nursing home in Raanana who were infected with the virus even though they were vaccinated, they concluded that the relief process should be carried out in a much more measured manner.

Whether or not it will be possible to remove the masks in the near future, it has been decided that schools will not remove the obligation to wear a mask until the end of the current school year.

The obligation to wear masks in open spaces was abolished immediately after Independence Day, and since then the declining trend in morbidity has continued.

In Israel today there are 518 active patients, of whom only 59 are in critical condition.

The percentage of positive tests out of all tests stands at 0.1%, and 26 new infections were diagnosed in the last day.
