The latest disappointing job creation figures are explained, according to some Democrats, by the persistent weakness in labor income. Yet all over the United States are popping up posters of wage increases of over $ 15 an hour, not to mention hundreds of dollars in immediate hiring bonuses. Retail giants like Target and Costco are looking to recruit by offering between $ 15 and $ 17 an hour, more than twice the federal minimum wage. McDonald's is also raising its salaries and offering bonuses to new hires of several hundred dollars. Amazon, in its depot in Dedham (Massachusetts) for example, goes up to $ 18 an hour, with a bonus of $ 100 on the first day. And for some night shifts, if the recruit is vaccinated, the bonus is $ 1,000.
