The new crown pneumonia has continued for a long time, and social distancing measures have hit the economy. Bloomberg announced yesterday (24th) the latest Covid Resilience Ranking for May. Hong Kong scored 71.3 points, an increase of 3.1 points from April. Ranked 10th among 53 economies, behind the mainland, Singapore, South Korea, Australia and other places.

Statistics show that Hong Kong has achieved good results in epidemic control, but its vaccination rate has been poor. The impact of social and economic activities in Hong Kong is also higher than in many regions, and economic growth forecasts are also lower.

In other regions, Taiwan, which has recently suffered a local epidemic, dropped 10 places to 15th from the previous month; while the mainland's ranking rose 3 places to 9th, surpassing Hong Kong; New Zealand replaced Singapore as the top spot.

Hong Kong score increases by 3 points monthly, ranking remains unchanged

"Bloomberg" compares the performance of various localities in fighting the epidemic and the impact of epidemic prevention measures on economic activities, and derives the "anti-epidemic resilience ranking."

Hong Kong scored 71.3 points in May, an increase of 3.1 points from April's 68.2 points. Although the score has improved, the ranking remains unchanged, and it is still ranked 10th.

Low vaccination rate ranked 30/53

Specific figures show that Hong Kong’s latest results in epidemic control in May have been impressive. The number of confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the month has been reduced to 4, the confirmed mortality rate was 1%, and the latest positive rate of tests has also dropped to 0%.

However, Hong Kong’s vaccination rate is relatively poor. Although the vaccination rate has risen from 8.3% in April to 14.30%, it is lower than most regions, ranking 30th out of 53 regions.

The anti-epidemic resilience ranking also compares the degree of impact on economic activities in various regions. The degree of impact on Hong Kong’s social and economic activities has been slightly reduced but still relatively high. Although the economic growth forecast for 2021 has risen slightly from 4.2% to 4.5%, it is only ranked in the middle reaches.

The mobility of Hong Kong in the community has further recovered, and the flow of people in the community has dropped by only 9.3% from the level before the epidemic.

Taiwan Explosion Epidemic ranking plummets, mainland rises 3 places, surpasses Hong Kong

Comparing different regions, the ranking of the Asian region fluctuates greatly. Taiwan, which has a local epidemic recently, dropped 10 places to 15th from the previous month.

In Taiwan, the number of confirmed cases per 100,000 population increased to 12 in the month, and the latest positive rate reached 1.7%.

It is worth noting that Taiwan has been facing difficulties in vaccine procurement, resulting in a slow vaccination rate. Bloomberg figures show that Taiwan's vaccination rate as of May 24 is only 0.6%.

On the other side, the Mainland's ranking rose by 3 places to 9th, surpassing Hong Kong.

In terms of vaccination, the latest vaccination rate in the Mainland is 17.8%, a sharp increase of 10 percentage points from 7.7% last month. The progress is more obvious.

Singapore, which ranked first last month, was also robbed of the top spot by New Zealand due to the heat of the epidemic and the impact of epidemic prevention measures on economic activities.
