Where does the coronavirus come from?

A US paper is now supposed to give evidence of a laboratory accident in Wuhan.

China speaks of a "complete lie".

Update from May 25, 2021, 9:02 a.m.:

China has

rejected

the report from the

Wall Street Journal

, according to which the origin of the

corona virus

could be traced back to a laboratory accident in Wuhan

(see initial report below)

.

The paper reported, citing a US intelligence report, that three employees of the Institute of Virology in Wuhan became so seriously ill in November 2019 that they had to be treated in hospital.

All three would have suffered from corona-like symptoms.

US secret report on corona origin in Wuhan laboratory: China speaks of a "complete lie"

China, on the other hand, sharply rejects the assumptions.

The Chinese state newspaper

Global Times

quoted

the head of the Wuhan Institute, Yuan Zhiming, on Monday.

China's government spokesman Zhao Lijian emphasized that there was no case of infection at the Wuhan virus research institute before December 30, 2019.

The US government is consciously trying to spread the thesis of a virus that broke out through the Wuhan laboratory, according to the spokesman's allegation.

In a study presented in March, the World Health Organization (WHO) came to the conclusion that the coronavirus could also originate in pangolins in addition to bats.

The theory that it could have escaped from a laboratory, on the other hand, described the participating scientists as "extremely unlikely".

Secret US paper on Corona origin: But evidence of a laboratory accident in Wuhan?

First report from May 24, 2021: Wuhan

- The question of the origin of the new type of coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 has still not been conclusively clarified.

Transmission from animals to humans is considered likely.

The theory of a laboratory accident in Wuhan, China, also regularly comes up.

Now a report in the

Wall Street Journal

about a US secret paper is

causing

excitement, which is supposed to provide evidence for this thesis again.

Secret US paper on Corona origin: But evidence of a laboratory accident in Wuhan?

The paper relies on an as yet unpublished US State Department document. It describes a disease by three researchers from the virological institute in Wuhan (WIV) in November 2019, i.e. before the official corona outbreak in China. The scientists reportedly suffered from corona-like symptoms and had to be treated in hospital. Similar information was already available from an information paper from the US State Department at the end of the Trump administration. At the time, however, it was suspected that the employees were suffering from flu or a similar seasonal illness. But this time it should be much more detailed information. The findings are now to be discussed at a meeting of the highest decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), which is due to take place on April 24.May 2021 is planned.

The assessment of the evaluation of the new findings differs.

While some

Wall Street Journal

sources

point out that the matter needs further investigation, others consider the new findings to be more significant: “The information we received from the various sources was of exquisite quality.

It was very precise, ”an informant is quoted as saying.

Corona origin in Wuhan laboratory?

Biden government does not want to comment

The Biden government so far declined to comment on the information, but stressed that any technically credible theories about the origin of the pandemic should be investigated by the WHO and international experts.

"We continue to have serious questions about the earliest days of the Covid-19 pandemic, including its origins in the People's Republic of China," a National Security Council spokeswoman said, according to the

Corona researchers fall ill at the same time: Former task force official doubts coincidence

David Asher, a former US official who headed a US State Department task force on the origins of the virus for then Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, finds clear words. "I strongly doubt that three people under highly protected circumstances in a level three laboratory that works on coronaviruses will all develop influenza and that there is no connection with the coronavirus," he said. Even more if "they all come to the hospital with severe symptoms in the same week," he told the
