MTR held a general meeting of shareholders today (26th). MTR Chairman Ouyang Boquan stated that property development projects under the epidemic have performed relatively well. MTR plans to complete the Pak Shing Kok Ventilation Building in Tseung Kwan O and the Tung Chung Traction Power Distribution Station within one year. Approval work and launch tenders; as for the first phase of the Tung Chung East Station project, tenders will be launched after signing the contract with the government. It is expected that each project will provide a total of about 4,800 residences.

In 2019, the MTR was involved in government disturbances due to its handling of demonstrations. The equipment at several stations was damaged by protesters. The recent ticket checking method has also attracted controversy.

MTR Chairman Ouyang Boquan said at the meeting that he would study different ways to pursue the damage to the equipment, including civil litigation and criminal proceedings.

At the same time, the MTR will remind staff how to communicate with passengers and improve the handling methods.

Ouyang Boquan said at the shareholders' meeting that the epidemic is expected to still pose a challenge to the economy. It is expected that the company's business will still be affected this year, but he is still optimistic about the short, medium and long term development.

Regarding the second phase of the South Coast project on Hong Kong Island, Ouyang Boquan stated that it will start the sale after obtaining the pre-sale consent. Last month, in response to the government's housing strategy, the tender for the Phase 6 project on the South Coast of Hong Kong Island was approved; "Phase 3" is expected to go on sale in the short term.

He also said that retail sales in Hong Kong are expected to remain sluggish in the short term, and it is believed that MTR rental income will still be affected.

MTR Property and International Business Director Tang Zhihui said that the Siu Ho Wan property project is progressing well and has entered the pre-design stage. The first phase of tender will be in 2024 at the earliest.

Most of the station facilities damaged in the anti-revision case have been repaired

At the shareholders meeting, some shareholders were concerned about some of the MTR equipment, which was destroyed during the anti-revision demonstration.

Liu Tiancheng, MTR's executive director-training and Mainland China business, said that most of the equipment has been repaired and will study different prosecution methods, including civil litigation and criminal proceedings.

The ticket inspector involved in the passenger's "kneeling" incident and referred to the police for follow-up

Another shareholder is concerned about the situation of MTR staff's ticket inspections. They pointed out that in April this year, during ticket inspections at Heng Huacun Station, the staff used to "kneel their necks" to subdue conflicting passengers. Ticket inspection staff also occurred at Shek Kip Mei Station. Accused of bad attitude.

Liu Tiancheng said that ticket checking is a measure to protect the interests of passengers, and there has been routine ticket checking, emphasizing that all people are treated equally.

Regarding the incident at Shek Kip Mei Station, he stated that he had understood the incident in accordance with the procedures, while the incident at Heng Hua Village had been handed over to the police for follow-up.

Liu Tiancheng said that staff would encounter different difficulties when checking tickets. For example, passengers refused to disclose their background, and it was difficult for staff to distinguish whether the other party had special needs based on their appearance alone.

He said that reminding staff how to communicate with passengers will improve the handling.
