Today, the World Health Assembly adopted a resolution in favor of the occupied Syrian Golan and the occupied Palestinian territories, in which it stressed ensuring fair, safe and non-discriminatory access to COVID-19 vaccines to the people of the Golan and to the Palestinians in the occupied territories, including East Jerusalem, in accordance with the provisions of international law.

And 83 member states of the organization voted in favor of the draft resolution entitled "Health conditions in the occupied Syrian Golan and the occupied Palestinian territories", against the opposition of 14 members.

During its seventy-fourth session held in Geneva, the Society requested the Health Organization to continue strengthening partnerships with other United Nations agencies to enhance the capacities of the humanitarian health response in the occupied Syrian Golan and the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, by providing assistance and protection in a comprehensive and sustainable manner during the Corona pandemic and after the end of the crisis. Epidemiology.

It also requested the organization to continue in this framework by providing the necessary technical assistance to meet health needs, including prisoners and detainees, and to support the Palestinian health sector through capacity-building programs to address structural problems arising from the long years of occupation and to provide technical assistance in the health field to Syrians in the occupied Golan and assigned the Director General WHO to report to the next session of the World Health Assembly on the implementation of the resolution on the basis of field monitoring.

The permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Husam al-Din Aalla, in a speech before voting on the draft resolution indicated that the systematic discriminatory practices imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities in an attempt to change the geographical and demographic character and impose their illegal occupation through the seizure of lands, displacement and deprivation of their owners. Ambassador Alla emphasized that these crimes against the Palestinians illustrate the human tragedy caused by the Israeli occupation and its aggressive practices, and stress the importance of providing protection for the Palestinian people and mobilizing international support for the Palestinian health sector, which is already exhausted as a result of the practices of the Israeli occupation authorities and their suffocating blockade of the Gaza Strip.

The ambassador called on the organization to implement the decisions of the World Health Assembly, which was entrusted with the task of submitting periodic reports on the situation in the occupied Arab territories based on an assessment and monitoring conducted by the organization's experts and providing assistance in the health field to the Syrian citizens in the occupied Golan, warning of the occupation's attempts to impose its mandate on the occupied Syrian Golan In violation of Security Council Resolution No. 497 of 1981, which rejected the aforementioned resolution and considered it null and void and has no international legal effect.

It is noteworthy that the World Health Assembly is the highest decision-making body in the World Health Organization, and the Syrian Arab Republic is participating in its current seventy-fourth session with a delegation headed by Minister of Health Dr. Hassan Al-Ghobash.
