For 11 days, residents of the south came under heavy fire during Operation Wall Guard. In the cities, moshavim and kibbutzim, thousands of Israeli women and men sat in protected rooms and tried to continue their daily lives between the alarms and the rocket fire. These were very challenging days, coming at the end of a long period in which the corona plague completely changed the lives of us all.
But the inhabitants of the south are made of a different material. Strong and durable material. The optimism is flowing in their blood and their ability to flourish and grow out of the difficulties is tremendous. Sderot, for example, has been absorbing rockets for 20 years and yet the city's population has grown; New generations of children are being born in kibbutzim in the Gaza Strip; There is a demand for apartments in Ofakim and Netivot. Ashkelon, which absorbed hundreds of rockets in the latest operation, and Ashdod north of it, also quickly returned to the routine of life.
Now, after the year of the corona and with the operation in Gaza behind us, the people of the south are waiting for you - for all of us.

At the beginning of Operation The Guardian of the Walls,
Ronen Ezran, the owner of the Dudu candy store in Sderot
, parked his car on a hill near Kibbutz Erez.
When he got out of the car, an anti-tank missile from the Gaza Strip was fired at him, destroying it. A missile fired from the Gaza Strip was hit yesterday.
Azran, who was standing a few meters from the vehicle, finished with only a minor injury.
"I am opening the store as a message to Hamas - you will not defeat us," says Azran.
"During this period I lose money in the store and not just now - in every round in the area we lose. But I will never close, when I am open it is our victory, I will never leave Sderot. Every drizzle of rockets to the area causes me to lose money, no job and residents "We stay in the houses. We have patience, the money is less interesting here. Now is the time to come to us and spend time in our amazing area."

, closed his business for almost an entire year because of the corona.
"Now it was closed because of the security situation," he says, "I left the restaurant in Sderot open, but at the moment there is little work. It is a big financial loss. On normal days it is impossible to enter the restaurant, because of the congestion. I am willing to suffer the economic damage. "It is difficult for Hamas. In days of rocket drips, the situation is worse, people do not leave their homes and even then the restaurant loses money. Order must be made once and for all."

During the Corona year, the restaurant was closed and after it opened, the operation forced him to throw away goods in the amount of NIS 50,000.
"We incurred other large financial losses due to the closure of the place," says Dudu. "There is always a week after a war where the residents are a little afraid to go out. Usually the restaurant is full every night and you can hardly find a vacant seat."
In the past week, the south has been slowly recovering, and now Dudu and other Netivot residents are enjoying the quiet and looking forward to visitors and diners in the city.
"Netivot is in full swing in all areas, the city is flourishing in the field of restaurants and leisure activities, it is very worthwhile to visit the city which is the trading capital of the south," he says.
"Usually the restaurant is full every night and you can hardly find a seat available."

Heavy barrages were fired at Kibbutz Zikim during Operation Wall Guard. The small kibbutz near the sea has received a lot of fire in previous rounds, and now that the calm has returned, its members are waiting for visitors in the beautiful turquoise pools and dunes of Nahal Shikma.

"There was no work in the last operation, we went out to the kibbutz in the north during the war, it was impossible to be here," Gal tells us.
"The business has suffered an economic blow. Every time the business grows something happens and does a 'haircut' for it, both the corona and the fighting environment, not just the current operation. Luckily most of the customers are from Gaza.
On quiet days this place is just paradise, quiet and peaceful.
And customers understand that.
At the end, customers from the center of the country tell me, 'We were a little apprehensive, but after half an hour we realized that it was amazing here.'
We came from Ashkelon to Zikim a decade ago and discovered a strong and supportive community, come to our kibbutz as well. "

At 75, he is very happy to serve customers and get back to routine.
"I have owned the store for 30 years, I immigrated from Morocco and immediately opened the store," says Henry.
"In the operation it was very difficult with the rockets and alarms, close the store and open, close and open, we had no rest, we lost money because we did not work."
But despite this, Abergel is optimistic and believes his city will continue to flourish.
"Ashkelon is special. There are not many parking lots for hair products in Ashkelon, I am among the few," he says, "This is a beautiful city with a beautiful beach and great residents, we have a strong community in the city. Come to Ashkelon."

Amnon Uziyahu, owner of the Teva HaBesor B&B in Moshav Ein HaBesor
