Ambassador Dr. Hassan Khaddour, the permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations office and other international organizations in Vienna, presented today his credentials to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Raphael Grossi.

During his meeting with Grossi, Ambassador Khaddour expressed appreciation for the continuation of cooperation between the agency and the Syrian government despite the long years of war on terrorism, which left disastrous effects on all sectors in Syria, stressing full readiness to continue this cooperation at various levels that fall within the jurisdiction of the agency's work.

Ambassador Khaddour gave a presentation in which he explained the repercussions of the terrorist and economic war on Syria, including the systematic destruction of the infrastructure of all sectors. He welcomed the support provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency to the Syrian government to respond to the repercussions of the spread of the Corona pandemic, especially in light of the challenges present in the reconstruction phase, foremost of which are the negative effects. In turn, Grossi expressed his welcome to the cooperation that has existed for years between Syria and the Agency, especially in the field of strengthening the infrastructure in the health sector and food security, in addition to managing water resources and responding to the repercussions of the spread of the Corona pandemic.

Grossi stressed the Agency's commitment to providing the necessary support to Syria, expressing his understanding of the issues and challenges facing Syria since the beginning of the crisis there.
