There has been an outbreak of immigration in Hong Kong in recent months. Many Hong Kong people have chosen to apply for BNO visas to immigrate to the UK. The Home Office of the United Kingdom announced today (27th) the latest immigration data, stating that a total of 34,300 BNO visa applications were recorded in the first quarter of this year, of which 20,600 were overseas. The authorities also pointed out that it is estimated that 5,500 BNO and SAR passport holders were approved for discretionary entry applications (LOTR) in the first quarter.

On January 31 this year, the British government introduced a new immigration route for British Nationals (Overseas) (BNO) holders, providing them and their families with opportunities to live, work and study in the UK.

The British Home Office today released the latest immigration data, which shows that 34,300 BNO visa applications were recorded in the first quarter of this year (January to March), of which 20,000 were main applicant cases and 14,300 were dependent cases ; 20,600 cases were overseas applications and 13,700 cases were domestic applications.

As for the 20,600 overseas applications, 5,600 visas were granted, including 3,600 main applicants and 2,000 dependants.

Of the 13,700 domestic applications, a total of 1,600 visas were granted, including 1,200 principal applicants and 400 dependants.

Statistics show that 86% of successfully granted visas are holders of BNO passports or Hong Kong SAR passports, and 41% of dependants hold passports other than SAR passports.

The authorities also pointed out that it is estimated that 5,500 BNO and SAR passport holders were approved for discretionary entry applications (LOTR) in the first quarter.

The data for the second quarter will be released on August 26 this year.
