E-mobility is picking up speed all over Germany - including in the Freising district.

The district office wants to be a role model.

District

- More and more electric vehicles are on Germany's roads - the Freising district is no exception.

The “Mobility Theme Week” of the “Bavarian Energy Transition Team”, an initiative of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, recently drew attention to the change.

161 152 vehicles are registered in the Freising district.

Of these, 1,279 cars and 73 trucks have a purely electric drive, says Robert Stangl, spokesman for the district office.

There are 2418 hybrid cars and one truck. 177 are powered by natural gas and four are powered by liquefied gas.

Hydrogen is not used at all.

Renault Zoe gave the impetus

The first electric vehicle in the district was registered in May 2007, but this information is not guaranteed, according to the district authority.

The first E-license plate was awarded in October 2015 - the local newspaper reported about it at the time.

A year from which there was progress in terms of e-mobility in the district cannot be determined.

The course resembles “more of an exponential function”.

According to Stangl, the impetus for this was the spread of the Renault Zoe from 2014, one of the first fully electric city cars for the general public.

In the years that followed, e-mobility picked up speed: While 627 e-vehicles were registered in 2018, there were 925 a year later and 1231 in 2020.

Around 40 charging points in the district

These can be charged at around 40 so-called charging points in the Freising district. “The first charging station was that of Stadtwerke Freising, which was installed in 2011 and was initially free of charge,” reports Stangl. “Before that, however, charging was already possible at sockets in the Freising multi-storey car parks.” In parallel with the rise in electric vehicles, the number of charging processes also increased continuously. The charging station at the Freising District Office was used 101 times in 2017, and 237 times a year later. In 2019 and 2020 the number remained constant (400 and 404 charges, respectively). In 2021 - as of the end of April - it was used 269 times.

Keyword District Office: Electric vehicles are increasingly being used there as well: “The first e-service car was put into operation in 2015, the first charging station in 2017,” the press office said.

The second e-company vehicle came in 2018.

“Electromobility is a particular concern for me personally.

As the District Office, we want to lead the way in the energy transition and be a role model, ”says District Administrator Helmut Petz.

That is why, at the beginning of his term of office, he commissioned the administration to gradually convert the district office's vehicle fleet to electric vehicles as part of the necessary replacement purchases.

Three new e-cars would be delivered in the next few days and the required charging stations would be installed in the underground car park.

Alternative drives for buses tested

There are also considerations to switch local transport to alternative offers: In 2019, the Freising district commissioned a study on alternative drives for buses with the other districts in the network via the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV). "In this study, different types of drive and then the lines of the districts involved are examined individually for feasibility with alternative drives," says the district authority. The results should be taken into account in future tenders.

Another step that the Freising District Office would like to take in the meantime: The competent committee of the district council is to discuss this soon and decide to supply the district schools with charging stations so that teachers who have an e-car can recharge their batteries free of charge in the school, explains District Administrator Petz.
