A surprising and unexpected guest - although dressed in black as is the custom of the members - sat down this week with the chairman of Torah Judaism at a special salute conference for ultra-Orthodox volunteers during the Corona period, which took place in the Dov Shilansky auditorium in the Knesset. With him for a long time, until for a moment the two seemed like the new brothers. The ultra-Orthodox participants in the conference rubbed their eyes and found it hard to believe that this is the practice of the chairman of the Finance Committee. The chairman of Yesh Atid, who is ready and willing to transfer the finance committee registered in his name to Yvette Lieberman.

The choice of Gafni Bair Lapid - in the midst of the mandate period and despite his virtual affiliation with Lieberman - as the keynote speaker at the conference he initiated, was a kind of clear signal from the chairman of Torah Judaism. Only this message was not directed at Prime Minister Netanyahu, but at members Shas and Torah Judaism.

At the very moment when Gafni sat and whispered next to Lapid, Karin Elharar, chair of the organizing committee on behalf of Yesh Atid, promoted the procedures for establishing the state commission of inquiry into the Meron events - in the face of an ultra-Orthodox intifada in the committee. Shas and Torah Judaism, the ultra-Orthodox representation should have led and not been dragged, and unanimously supported the proposal.

"There is a torch for the secular," was the slogan of the father torch. This week there were those who suggested slightly changing the suffix: "There is a torch for the ultra-Orthodox" - and not for the elected, but for the voters. The ultra-Orthodox street has never identified with a counter-demand by Yair Lapid vis-à-vis the ultra-Orthodox establishment, as it identified this week with the demand for the establishment of a commission of inquiry with teeth that will not whitewash the failures of activists and politicians. For a moment, it seems that the ultra-Orthodox politicians who are raging in the committee against the establishment of a commission of inquiry are taking care of the existential interests of their constituents - much as the members of the joint list have taken care of the Arab public in the midst of the riots.

Gafni, who was the exception among his friends, did not content himself only with conveying covert messages, such as the invitation to honor the torch. A moment after the faction's meeting ended, during which it was decided that Torah Judaism would promote the establishment of a commission of inquiry that is not a commission of inquiry, he broke lines and sent Netanyahu a letter, in which he explicitly asked for a state commission of inquiry. This letter infuriated his friends, the Hassidim and also the Lithuanians. "We said we would sit down with Sagit to find a solution. Why are you coming out against your faction?", They slapped Gafni.

Sagit (Afek) has been the legal advisor of the Finance Committee for the past decade, which was elected as the new legal advisor of the Knesset in place of Eyal Yinon.

The one who won her promotion to the position, in quiet work with all the factions of the house, was Moshe Gafni, under whom Sagit served on the committee for about a decade, with a slight break in the 2015-2013 term.

The conclusion of the faction was that the members would sit down with the Knesset Spokesman to find an alternative solution to the State Commission of Inquiry, but Gafni - in their opinion - preferred to make a media box office and sent Netanyahu an independent letter demanding the establishment of a state commission of inquiry.

In fact, the fact that Atid supports a commission of inquiry, the ultra-Orthodox MKs waved as evidence that the ultra-Orthodox should oppose the proposal as one. Here it must be said clearly: . Rather the contrary, connector locations Haredim support the proposal to establish a commission of inquiry with teeth, and save all of us the cover-up fiasco and embarrassment. we have no other way, and our land is burning.

the need to establish a commission of inquiry, to not only draw the necessary conclusions and making changes to the site, but will demand accountability If the Meron victims are buried without any of the people involved being held personally accountable, every activist, politician and police officer will know from now on that ultra-Orthodox blood To make matters worse - without paying a price, not only for the dead we fight, but also and above all, for the living.

The refusal camp of the ultra-Orthodox elected to establish a state commission of inquiry crosses parties, while on the other hand, the ultra-Orthodox electorate finds it difficult to understand why MKs choose to protect the linked activists and not the innocent public. Not to mention bereaved families who do not know their souls. Anyone who has seen the families of the victims grasp their hands in sorrow during the committee hearings can sum up the play with one melancholy question: An only orphaned little girl stood and asked, why?
