Intermittents, students and undocumented migrants have still not left the theater, despite the requests of the director of the place. The performances scheduled for early June are canceled.

Occupied since March 15 by intermittents of the show, the Théâtre de la Criée in Marseille announced Thursday "

the impossibility of welcoming the public until further notice

", canceling the performances scheduled for early June, according to a statement from the management . The "

blockage

" of the large hall and the restaurant makes the reception of the public "

incompatible with the occupation in its current form, taking into account the safety regulations and health protocols in force

", informs the Management of the Auction. The theater is canceling the Pierre Goy & Liana Mosca concert scheduled for June 1 and the performances of Winterreise by Angelin Preljocaj initially scheduled for June 4, 5 and 6.

"

There is an emergency

" to reopen, pleaded a week earlier the director of this national theater, Macha Makeïeff.

The theater had already canceled the first performances, scheduled for May.

At the Théâtre de la Criée, dozens of people, including intermittent entertainment workers, students and homeless people occupy the theater 24 hours a day to demand the abandonment of the unemployment insurance reform which is to come into force at the beginning of the day. July and the extension of the white year after months of inactivity.

They also register their movement in a convergence of anti-racist and anti-sexist struggles or against police violence.

Occupants "

who are starting to tire

"

In its press release, the theater management claims to have noted, at the start of the movement, "

the existence of common demands with the occupants

" but today expresses its "

sadness

" at the impossibility of opening.

After more than two months of occupation an intermittent of the show who wishes to remain anonymous confessed to AFP that the occupants "are

starting to tire

" and that they cannot "

block forever

".

Nevertheless, they hope to be able to continue their fight at the Auction or in another space, like the occupants of the Odéon theater in Paris who have now taken over the cultural space 104. An exchange is scheduled for Thursday evening between the occupants de la Criée, the representative of the Ministry of Culture, Jean-Marc Coppola, deputy for culture to the mayor of Marseille and the Theater Directorate.

Elsewhere in France, other cultural professionals still occupy theaters to protest against the reform of unemployment insurance and ask for the extension of the white year.
