Just went well again: A dryer in a single-family house on Mozartstrasse in Graefelfing caught fire on Wednesday afternoon.

However, thanks to her exemplary behavior, one of the residents was able to keep the fire damage within limits.

Graefelfing

- Shortly after the woman had switched on her dryer in the basement, she noticed an increasing smell of burning. While searching for the cause, she saw that flames were already beating out of the dryer. She immediately closed the door of the affected room, called the fire brigade and brought herself and another resident to safety.

Just a few minutes after the call, the Graefelfing volunteer fire brigade arrived at the site in five vehicles.

The 35 firefighters immediately launched an extinguishing attack.

At this point in time, the flames had already spread from the dryer to the washing machine next to it and other inventory in the basement.

The fire brigade's respiratory protection team extinguished the fire with compressed air foam - this prevented water damage.

In addition, the fire brigade ventilated the building.

The mission was over after an hour and a half.

Closed door prevented worse

"It was very fortunate that the resident closed the room door, otherwise the damage would have been significantly greater," says operations manager Thomas Hickel.

If the door had remained open, the fire and smoke could have spread unhindered throughout the building.

Due to the well-considered behavior of the woman, the fire damage is limited to the individual basement rooms.

This must now be professionally cleaned and then whitewashed.

The building remains habitable.
