The much-discussed traffic light is to receive Zwilling

The pedestrian traffic light at the new fire station on Amperstrasse in Emmering remains controversial.

After actually having already decided to move them northwards, a new variant is now in play: a second traffic light.

Emmering

- The fact that the signal system is being discussed at all is due, among other things, to the fact that it stands in the way.

If the fire brigade moves out of their new building with large vehicles in the future, there could be a collision with the traffic lights.

The building committee (BA) had therefore already decided in April to move the amp system a bit to the north.

When possible variants were presented to the committee for municipal building projects (AGB), the back and forth began again.

Now another possibility is to be examined: a second traffic light south of the confluence of the street Bachwörth.

It should bring more safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

The following variant had already been agreed with the fire brigade: The traffic light should - as decided by the BA - be moved a little north.

The fire brigade would have its own exit lane on the Bachwörth.

Along the Amperstrasse, the sidewalk would be separated from the road with high curbs in order to create safety for pedestrians.

The Bachwörth itself, for which a shared space was planned, i.e. a traffic area in which all participants have equal rights, would remain untouched.

However, Ulrike Saatze (Greens) feared that pedestrians from the south would not march to the traffic lights further north, but could cross the lane earlier - in the middle of the curve area.

"I see a great threat here," she said.

Mayor Stefan Floerecke (CSU) pointed out that the main connection for pedestrians is in the north, the way to school.

"The schoolchildren who go there are the most deserving of protection because they are the weakest in traffic," said the town hall chief.

Werner Öl (CSU) saw relocation to the north as “the safest and best solution for everyone.” Michael Schanderl (FW), on the other hand, does not consider relocating the traffic lights to be absolutely necessary.

"You can also convert the mast so that it is no longer in the way," he said.

In addition, the former mayor pointed out that the behavior of cyclists must be investigated, for whom moving the traffic lights could also pose a risk in the future.

There were also concerns because cars coming from the south could block the intersection if they have to stop at the traffic lights. Ottmar Altbauer (FW) therefore brought a completely new variant into play: two traffic lights - one north and one south of the confluence of the Bachwörth. The latter should not have a pedestrian crossing, but only brake the cars in front of the intersection. "The traffic lights could be switched to the same", says Altbauer. This would make things much easier for all those involved in traffic.

Floerecke reminded once again that the district office and the police consider a traffic light in the south to be unsustainable. The authorities fear that the light signal in the curve area will be seen too late and that there could be rear-end collisions. Nevertheless, the AGB wants to have this variant checked again. The second traffic light could also be integrated into the variant favored by the fire brigade and generally supported by the committee, with its own turning lane and the traffic light shifted to the north.

The interior fittings of the new fire station were less controversial than the outside area. The firefighters would like a light wooden floor and dark tables - similar to the one in the town hall's meeting room. The AGB members had nothing against this either, so that this variant was unanimously recommended to the municipal council for implementation.
