Liga MX and LaLiga have signed a collaboration agreement to promote the two competitions.

It is a commitment to the internationalization of Mexican soccer, one of the most solid competitions at an economic level in Latin America.

"Mexico is one of the most important places in the world for LaLiga," said Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish tournament.

The topics to be worked on between both competitions will be on issues of sponsorship, marketing, the digital transformation of brands and strategies to combat piracy of football broadcasts.

In addition, they will seek strategies to combat racism and violence within sport.

"We will work on women's football issues, we want to be involved in promoting the League as a promoter of women's football worldwide," said Nuño Pérez-Pla, director of the office of Spanish competition in Mexico and the Caribbean.

“You have to make the clubs aware that the competition is what you can sell to the rest of the world. Then you face the position of some clubs that believe that their brand is more important than the competition itself, ”Tebas advised the Mexican soccer environment. "Internationalization is our great characteristic," he added, "it is no longer enough to have a great brand, or great players, but to be a great club in order to be transparent as in all companies." Mexican soccer has had in recent years problems of non-payment to soccer players, as was the case with Veracruz, which had to be expelled from the competition due to economic instability.

Tebas also stressed that if Liga MX seeks to grow, it must rethink the sale of commercial rights. In Mexico, the sale falls to each Mexican club that decides to negotiate with the television stations. "The centralized sale of the competition [such as LaLiga or the Premier League] brings, without a doubt, much more value than the individual sale, I would dare to say double or triple it," said the Spaniard. “If you compare 2015 with 2020, television in Mexico has lost 10 percentage points in reach, but the number of soccer fans has been increasing, only consumption patterns change. The number of people who watch the games on two screens [TV and a mobile device] went from 50% to 82%. The League must be the producer of these new content, ”said Mikel Arriola, president of the Mexican League.

Arriola asked Tebas to put a magnifying glass on Mexican footballers "in the transfer periods, that they know that Liga MX is working the basic forces.

Let it be an additional window for our players ”.
