The Chief Executive in conjunction with the Executive Council approved the invitation to MTR to carry out the detailed planning and design of the Hung Shui Kiu Station. Construction is expected to start in 2024. The project is expected to take 6 years to complete by 2030.

A spokesperson for the Transport and Housing Bureau said that it currently takes about 24 minutes to reach Tin Shui Wai Station from the city centre of the future new development area and 20 minutes to Siu Hong Station. After Hung Shui Kiu Station is available, it will take two stations to Hung Shui Kiu City Centre. Each takes only about 4 minutes.
The Transportation and Housing Bureau estimates that during the 50-year operation period of the Hung Shui Bridge Station, the economic benefits of the Hung Shui Bridge Station are estimated to be 55 billion yuan at 2018 prices, including the time value of approximately 314 million hours saved for the public.
The government estimates that the Hung Shui Bridge/Xia Village New Development Area can accommodate 218,000 people, of which 176,000 are new populations and 150,000 new jobs.
According to the document submitted by the Development Bureau to the Public Works Subcommittee of the Legislative Council in May last year, it is estimated that the first batch of residents will be occupied in 2024, and the first phase of the development will build about 1,300 dedicated resettlement housing units in phases and 3 rural relocations. The 100 households accommodated on the site, that is, a total of 1,400 households, have a population of 4,400.
The second phase of the Hung Shui Bridge development is also expected to be completed in 2032. There will be 30,900 units and 90,800 people living in by then.

Therefore, according to the current timetable set by the government, the Hung Shui Bridge Station will not begin construction until the first batch of residents enter the occupation in 2024, and it will wait six years for railway connections.
The government also plans to build an environmentally friendly transportation service to connect Hung Shui Kiu and Yuen Long South Development Area, and select an automatic rapid transit system, an environmentally friendly bus system and a modern tram for consultation. However, it has not yet decided and it is unknown when it will be completed to provide the connection.
