In April last year, the police arrested a number of people who had participated in 4 peaceful demonstrations in 2019. Among them were veteran democrats. 15 people were prosecuted, including Martin Lee, Yang Sen, He Junren and Wu Aiyi. They were divided into 4 cases. One year later, 3 out of 4 cases have been concluded, 9 out of 15 people have been put in prison, and 5 people have been suspended from prison. 4 cases involved 4 demonstrations respectively

The 15 accused persons include: Li Zhiying, Li Cheuk-ren, Wu Aiyi, Liang Guoxiong, Ho Xiulan, Ho Junren, Liang Yaozhong, Martin Lee, Au Nuoxuan, Yang Sen, Chen Haohuan, Wu Wenyuan, Cai Yaochang, Shan Zhongkai and Huang Haoming, they were accused He was charged with participating in the unauthorized assembly on August 18, August 31, October 1, and October 20, 2019. Each defendant was involved in more than one case for participating in more than one demonstration.

8.18 Probation case of 4 persons suspended

The court heard the demonstration on August 18, 2019 in February this year. Among the nine defendants in the case, only Liang Yaozhong and Ou Nuoxuan pleaded guilty. The remaining seven defendants, including Li Zhuoren and Liang Guoxiong, were mostly involved in Hong Kong. The members of the pro-democracy movement for decades, they accused the police of settling their accounts after the autumn. They also emphasized that there was no violent incident that day and that the whole day demonstrations were conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.

However, the judge said that the demonstration was never approved, and finally ruled that all the defendants were guilty.

The judge finally pleaded guilty to Leung Yiu Chung, Senior Counsel Martin Lee, Barrister Wu Aiyi, and lawyer He Junren, and other four persons on probation. The other defendants were all jailed for 8 to 18 months.

Li Zhuoren Li Zhiying is also involved in the 8.31 case and has been imprisoned for 14 months

Soon after the 8.18 demonstration case was concluded, the court also handled the 8.31 demonstration case. This case only involved three defendants, namely Li Zhiying, Li Zhuoren and Yang Sen. They all pleaded guilty. In this case, the three were sentenced to 6 to 8 months in prison, but because Li and Li were sentenced in the 8.18 demonstration case. The judge allowed part of their sentence to be executed at the same time. After two cases, the total sentence of the two persons was 14 months. Although Yang Sen was sentenced to 8 months in prison, he was allowed to probate his sentence for 1 year. .

10.1 Parade case: 8 persons in prison and 2 persons suspended

At the beginning of this month, the court handled a case involving the demonstration on October 1, 2019. This case involved a total of 10 defendants, and 6 of them were involved in the 8.18 and 8.31 demonstrations, including Li Zhuoren, Liang Guoxiong, and Li Zhiying. He Xiulan and He Xiulan are already serving their sentences, while Yang Sen, He Junren and Wu Wenyuan are on probation.

All the 10 defendants pleaded guilty at the beginning of the trial. The judge later remanded all the defendants in custody, but Shan Zhongkai and Cai Yaochang were finally suspended.

10.20 March trial in August

The remaining procession on October 20, 2019 has been scheduled for trial on August 19. Among the 7 people involved, 6 of them have been involved in the other 3 cases. Among the defendants, only Huang Haoming was not involved. The previous 3 cases.

Although the 4 cases have been concluded one by one, the 15 defendants have not yet completely escaped. 9 of them, including: He Junren, Li Zhuoren, Cai Yaochang, Liang Yaozhong, Li Zhiying, Chen Haohuan, Liang Guoxiong, He Xiulan, Yang Sen, etc., are also involved in 2020 The June 4th party was accused of participating in an unauthorized assembly and will be heard again in the District Court on the 11th of next month.
