A 70-year-old male resident living alone in the unit was arrested. He was cautioned that he was a gun fan, so he collected the firearms and ammunition involved in the case, and said that his interest was "very hard to stop."
He pleaded guilty to one count of unlicensed possession of firearms and ammunition in the High Court today (28th). When sentenced by the judge, he accused the defendant of indulging in firearms and suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder, which was not the reason for the crime, and his actions brought serious risks to local law and order. He was sentenced to 6 years and 2 months in prison.
There were 5 similar cases
The defendant Liu Yili, 73 years old, worked in diving engineering.
He was charged on October 25, 2018, in possession of a batch of firearms and ammunition in an unlicensed unit in Sai Kung Banchang, namely 14 pistols, 3 pistols, 1 revolver, 3 barrels, 3 slides, 1 bolt, 1948 rounds of live ammunition and 25 bullets.
The court revealed that the defendant had a total of 5 similar cases and was sentenced to three years in prison in 1999.
The gun is not loaded
The defense pleaded that the defendant was only collecting guns and ammunition and had no intention of using them for illegal purposes, and that only 16 of the 18 guns involved in the case were usable.
The defendant did not carry these items with him, and the gun was not loaded.
Indulging in guns and being sick is not a crime excuse
When sentencing, the judge said that guns and ammunition were placed in the living room and bathroom, which could easily be obtained by criminals.
The judge also pointed out that the defendant’s addiction to firearms and obsessive-compulsive disorder were not excuses for committing the crime, and his actions posed serious risks to local law and order.
In addition, the defendant had similar cases and was sentenced to prison many times, but he still ignored the law and discipline.
But considering that his age is already high and his sentence has been reduced, he was finally sentenced to 6 years and 2 months in prison.
The search found that the defendant had hidden his gun in the living room and bathroom
According to the case, the police searched the defendant’s residence on the day of the crime and found that 14 pistols, 1 pistol, 1 revolver, bullets and other components were found in the living room. The guns were placed in different plastic boxes at the time.
The police also seized two long guns in a pile of debris in the bathtub in the bathroom.
Said that the control is not up to oneself
The defendant admitted under caution that all the guns and ammunition belonged to him. He also said that "I can't control myself, let me have a chance."
In the video interview, he added that he is a fan of guns and that he kept the guns and ammunition for the purpose of collection, and said that his interest in this area was "very hard to stop." However, when asked about the source of the guns and ammunition, he remained silent.
