The series on the singer's life omitted an epic encounter, the afternoon of 1992 when the artist met the former tennis player on a court at the Sheraton. The story behind a video that exists thanks to the ingenuity of Juan Alberto Mateyko.

-Luis Miguel wants to see Gaby ...

-Gaby would love to come and say hello to Luis Miguel.

-Come to the Sheraton, I'll organize everything.

The telephone conversation took place at the beginning of December 1992 between two immense figures of the artistic business community, now deceased. One, Hugo López, Argentine, tango player and a fan of River, mentor of the most successful stage of

Luis Miguel's

career

(51), as shown in the

Netflix series

. The other, Pepe Parada, a legend of the Buenos Aires theater and television environment, a friend of many and among them of Ova Sabatini, Gabriela's brother.

Words more, words less, in a matter of seconds, the old colleagues, also representatives and producers, gentlemen with codes, coordinated a meeting that is still being talked about almost 30 years later: the afternoon that Micky played tennis with

Gabriela Sabatini

(51 ), then an established professional, with 25 of her 27 tournaments won, including the 1991 US Open.

That December of 1992, Luis Miguel arrived in Argentina in the last stage of an exhausting tour that had begun in September of the previous year:

Romance Tour

was 90 dates for Mexico, the United States, Central America and South America.

Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Tucumán were missing, in the middle a trip to Paraguay, and the closing in Santiago de Chile.

Despite being tired, Luismi wanted to meet Gaby.

It was a couple of days before he learned that his father Luisito Rey was dying in a clinic in Barcelona: the singer traveled and was present when he died.

He returned sadder, as shown by his shows at Luna Park.

Those who follow the series will already know why.

Gabriela Sabatini looks at Luis Miguel's drive.

He was already a star of Argentine sports: the year before, he had won the United States Open.

But Gaby Sabatini does not appear in the series, only in a video that was obtained thanks to the office of another number 1 in his business:

Juan Alberto Mateyko

. The Doll was in Mar del Plata doing "The Summer Show" for Telefe, from the Torreón del Monje beach. He could not get Luis Miguel to travel to La Feliz, but his friendship with López allowed him to enter an exclusive camera and record the meeting of the two stars.

Luismi arrived tired and with the usual annoyance. His stay in Buenos Aires had started in another hotel, in front of the Plaza San Martín. There he gave the press conference, encouraged by Mateyko, and annoyed because he did not have a comfortable place to sunbathe, he asked to be changed to the Sheraton. From the presidential suite on the 23rd floor ($ 3,000 a night) she saw the concrete of the tennis court and understood everything: Gaby had to be called.

In the video she smiles, as shy as ever.

Luismi came out to meet him surrounded by the handful of people who witnessed the "party", a photographer and several guards.

They rallied for a while and laughed a lot, especially every time the singer tried to show the power of his right, almost always to the net.

The clumsiness of his movements are inimitable even for Diego Boneta, the actor who brings his biopic to life.

Then there was time for a small agape in which the most intimate, family and friends participated, and between the tennis player and the singer there was a beautiful friendship that extended in time and distance.

She is one month younger, she was born on May 16, 1970;

and he, on April 19.

There was even talk of a possible romance, as always, something that was nothing more than a simple rumor.

With her life divided between the United States and Switzerland, always cultivating a low profile, Gaby gave

Clarín

a couple of phrases about that old meeting with Luis Miguel and her affection for the singer.

"It was always very special to meet Luis Miguel, he is a person whom I deeply admire and who has accompanied me and accompanies me in so many moments of my life with his songs," Gaby commented on WhatsApp.

She added: "The times we met, he was always a charming, warm, kind, respectful person and it was very nice and interesting to chat with him."

"That day we played, in particular, we had a lot of fun and he was a very good doubles partner," Gaby finished with giggling emojis and hands in thanks.

Then he clarified that this was not the only time they played tennis together.

Gabriela Sabatini and Luis Miguel, great friends.

They are the same age, they were born a month apart.

The sporting side of Luis Miguel

According to the Netflix series, which this Sunday 30 reaches the end of the second season, the sport practically does not exist in the life of the Mexican singer.

The entire production revolves around Micky's family problems, his records, love affairs, scandals ... and the glasses of whiskey.

His hidden passion, they say, is surfing.

And the best known, high-speed cars.

He is friends with boxer Saúl Canelo Álvarez, whom he met in Las Vegas, one of his favorite places in the world for casinos and shows.

However, days ago he missed the Mexican champion's wedding, in which figures such as Maluma and Prince Royce, among others, were present.

"He was absent for fear of the coronavirus," they explained.

In Acapulco (where he has his home) a traditional ATP circuit tournament is played, and the Sol de México was an image in some advertising related to the event, but tennis is nothing more than an occasional hobby in his routine.

When he was younger, in his shows he wore the shirt of the local team and went on stage to kick balls to the public.

It is said that he is a fan of America, the most popular in his country, but he never said it publicly.

Also avoid talking about politics.

In an interview with the newspaper Olé, his former producer Matías McCluskey, son of his former representative Alex McCluskey, said that he was once taken to La Bombonera camouflaged and a Boca fan hugged him after a goal without knowing that he was in front of Luis Miguel.

It was in 1988, and the following year he asked to see Boca at home again.

"He was blown away by the crowd," McCluskey recalled.
