Malaysia today announced the imposition of a complete nationwide lockdown, starting from the beginning of next month, due to the increase in cases of coronavirus and its highly contagious mutants.
Reuters quoted Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin as saying in a statement: In light of the recent increase in the number of daily infections, which showed a dramatically upward trend, the capacity of hospitals across the country has become limited to treat Corona virus patients.
He added: “The strictest closure will start from the first of next month until the 14th of it and will be applied at the level of all social and economic activities except for the necessary services,” stressing the importance of the closure due to the mutated strains of the Coronavirus with the high infection rates.
The Malaysian Prime Minister had warned on the tenth of this month that his country may face a national crisis with the third wave of the Corona virus, while Malaysia witnessed a record high in HIV infections in the last four days and today announced the registration of 8,290 new infections, bringing the total number of infections to 549514, while the total deaths reached 549,514. 2552 after 61 new cases were registered.
