A helicopter circles in the Rems-Murr district at night.

A resident who feels annoyed by the noise dials the emergency number.

That could have consequences.

Weinstadt - A senior had disappeared from a garden plot in Weinstadt in the Rems-Murr district * (BW24 * reported) on the night of Tuesday, May 25th.

Because the police could not rule out that the 83-year-old was in a helpless or dangerous situation, they also looked for the missing person by helicopter.

The flight of the police helicopter over the city of around 26,000 inhabitants lasted 20 minutes and always starts at Stuttgart Airport * for this type of mission.

The helicopter belongs to the type H 145, and thus belongs to the newer, quieter models.

Nevertheless, the rotor makes a lot of noise.

Because some residents felt bothered by this in the middle of the night, they called the police to complain.

“It happens again and again that residents complain, especially after helicopter operations at night,” says Rudolf Biehlmaier, spokesman for the Aalen police for the

Stuttgarter Nachrichten

.

The resident uses the emergency call - and makes a mistake

However, one of the residents made a mistake.

He used the emergency number for the complaint - dialed 110, which could have made himself a criminal offense.

The Criminal Code provides that the emergency number is not misused.

The public prosecutor's office now has to examine whether this is the case in the Weinstadt man.

The caller faces a fine or up to a year in prison.

The reason: "If our police officers on duty who process the emergency calls have to accept inquiries or complaints at night, they are in some cases severely delayed in their work," explains police spokesman Rudolf Biehlmaier.

In addition, the line would be blocked and people who really need help might not get through to the police.

The missing person was found safe and sound after midnight

The missing 83-year-old Weinstädter was finally found that same night - but not by the helicopter.

Patrol officers discovered the man safe and sound around 0.30 a.m.

According to the police spokesman, the use of the helicopter had previously been deemed necessary.

“We only use the helicopters when there is no other way.

And in our opinion, saving a human life is to be seen as more important than getting individual people to sleep, ”said Rudolf Biehlmaier.
